The dress up delusion by Vallari

The dress up delusion

While the mankind has reached the moon and beyond, mindsets still seem to be stuck somewhere between all those layers of mantle and magma. No matter how rapidly the standards of living have raised, we still raise an eyebrow when we see a glamorously dressed girl walking down the street at an odd hour! In a society where a dress is  taken for a yes, one is addressed based upon how they are dressed and the worse STEREOTYPED.

A woman dressed in salwar kameez  is labeled as a bhenji.  Whereas the one who wears miniskirts is categorized as slut. And a woman with short hair is given a tag of tomboy.  This way, one's sense of dressing becomes a basis for forming a million biases and at the same time it also leads to assumptions being formed on one's sexuality and sexual orientation.

While the salwar kameez one is thought to be the kind who will have sex only to reproduce,  the lady who likes to wear minis is considered eligible for rape.  Moreover,  the woman who chooses to sport short hair is interrogated upon her being straight.

Surely, just like any other societal norm stereotypes are also more stern for women. But guys also do find themselves to be victim of it. The guy who combs his hair is seen as a geek so logically the one who does not will be seen as a stud. And the one who wears even a bit of pink is segregated as a gay.

Well, an outfit does reflect a certain part of one's personality, it's too little of evidence to form clichéd judgments. The way a person dresses up should me a matter of choice and comfort and not impressions and interpretations. After all , life is too short to form pointless perceptions and no dress too short to make you a victim of any of the patriarchal preconceptions.
