Things to consider before deciding your college

Now, after the release of the cut-off lists, it’s a very tough decision to chose and see which college to apply. This decision is very important as it will have an impact on your career. From where you have pursued your graduation holds lot of importance in the corporate world. Also since college life is different from your sheltered school life, it is very important that you study in a good college. College is a place for new beginnings and being in a college that is 'right' for you can make all the difference. In an attempt to help you decide which college to choose, I have enumerated certain things that will help you take this decision-:
1.    Make a list of colleges: The first step is to make a list of all the colleges that offer the course you want to take. In every city, there are many colleges that will offer courses you want to pursue. After making the list, you can research about that college by going through its website and talking to people about it.
2.    Know about the faculty: One of the most important factors that should help you decide on which college to study is academics. Hence, it's important for you to find out about the faculty. One way to do that is to talk to the students currently studying there.
3.    Placements: Another important thing to consider about a college is that does it offer good placements. Try to find out how many students from the college got picked up by companies, what companies come to recruit, average salary package students get, etc. This will help you know about college's reputation in the corporate world.
4.    Infrastructure & Facilities: There are certain courses that require certain facilities and equipments that will help students to learn and grow. Like science students require proper labs, for journalism students proper cameras, editing suites are required. Besides this, students need laptops, Wi-Fi environment, conference hall, etc. Make sure that the course you choose has the facilities required to give you a better learning experience and provides you help when required.
5.    Location: It should’nt be such an important criteria but choosing a college closer to home is everyone's preference. No one wants to travel long distance and get exhausted even before the classes start. Many students who are doing exhaustive courses like engineering or medicine move to different cities to study in their dream college. Hence, where your college is situated also makes a difference.
6.    Extracurricular activities: If you have interest in sports, debating, music or dance, then college will help you discover these talents. College is a place where you get the chance to bring out your hidden talents, and not just indulge in academic pursuits. It is best to choose a college which has provisions for the kind of things you are interested in like a debating club or theater team.

FRESHER AT BHARATI COLLEGE? NOT AN ISSUE By NISHTHA NAGPAL

FRESHER AT BHARATI COLLEGE? NOT AN ISSUE.

Bharati College, one of the top women’s college in West Delhi, is a constituent college of the University of Delhi is located in a serene and scenic campus and caters to about 2000 students, offering instruction in eleven disciplines in the Arts and Social Sciences and students can opt for honours courses in 8 of them. The College also offers a Master’s course in Hindi. It also offers part-time, self-financing courses in foreign languages (French, German and Russian) as well as computer courses to prepare students for the world of work.
Since 2009, Bharati College has been running an innovative programme to help integrate new entrants to college life. It is called a Extended Orientation Program: Bridging the Gap Between School and College. They run this programme at the very beginning of every new academic year for new entrants over their first three days in college. It is a full day programme where teams of teachers collaborate to prepare the materials and run the programme.
Over the years, it has been noticed that young women typically come from patriarchal setups where they are denied a voice of their own. At school, the dominant culture is of being spoon-fed, dependent on made easy study notes, rote learning and so on. This leaves them with little or no ability to articulate their thoughts, think independently and write coherently.
They at Bharati College believe that these are issues that need to be addressed urgently and in a focused manner right at the start of college life. These issues can be addressed through an intensive activity-driven orientation program that imparts skills and strategies needed for college and later life. The goal has been to help them cope with the demands of Academic Reading and Writing, even as they equip them with skills and strategies for dealing with their own problems and help them recognize their roles in the larger life of the country and the world. They have been using the integrated learning approach as it allows flexibility of interaction along with direct teaching supported by digital media. The students are encouraged to summarize, paraphrase, evaluate, and analyze a given issue or situation.
Interactive tasks are set around issues that impinge on their personal lives. From themes like fashion, lifestyle, peer pressure they move to academic reading and writing. Students are encouraged to apply the gathered information/ insights in different situations through group activities like role play, dramatization, debate, etc.
The impact of this programme has been very positive on students. They bond with the institution and teachers faster. Moreover, they do not feel like strangers groping to get familiar with a new place. Students make friends across subjects and sections and also teachers spot talent and potential leaders early. All in all, it is a win- win situation all round.

College and Schools Can Be this Much Different! By Vaishali

College and Schools Can Be this Much Different

In life there are those key- make or break moments that if bridged correctly, takes us to the next important phase of life. After school comes college, and young people who have undergone the transition from one to the other realize how different both lives are in spite their seeming similarities, while this transition is pleasurable and exciting but can also be very challenging. Some find it easy to shift from school to college, adjusting to all aspects of their new life. However, others struggle to face the changes and may even find them disappointing or depressing, but eventually endures it.
The phase of admission process is about to start as results are pouring out. Cut-off being declared by the university and counseling dates being announced, seems to be the gravest period for the students because of the increasing competitions, it triggers a great deal of anxiety and stress. Gone are those carefree days where everything was seemed to be served on the plate or can be quoted as spoon fed to us but college gives us the sudden bash of responsibilities and obligation on our shoulder to move forward and accept the reality.
·         In school we are more structured than college, which tends to address our personal freedom. Time is usually structured in a tight schedule of six long hours and has back to back class whereas college gives us free time in between classes.
·         School means everybody knows you and your life history. College means an opportunity to start from scratch, reinvent yourself, and be cooler than you were in school. You usually go to a local school. However, in the college, students are coming from the different parts of the state or country. This means everyone is given the chance to repackage their personalities.
·         School attendance is carefully monitored and is taken only once in the morning by the class teacher, whereas in college there is attendance for every class you attend, professors may not formally take attendance but certainly the percentage criteria is followed.

The school phase nurtures us for the further moral and higher studies whereas college phase becomes the mentor for us, which prepares us for the survival and moulds us into the reality of life. So the student should be armed with the right resources to cross each of life’s critical bridges. Moreover school, institutions, college and university, faculties, must have the fullest possible picture of the human being they will be working with in order to set up the best possible conditions for the success.

The summer trend by Ayushi koul

The summer trend

Admission process has started in colleges and with that preparations for banging the college life with all new wardrobe. Shopping in bulk is something which girls do and is a big NO, this is because trend soon changes and you will be left with all outdated clothes plus bored only by looking at them even when you would have not wore them once.
so here are some tips which you can keep in mind when shopping or getting dressed up for college.

1. Buy stuff only and only for summers.
This is some thing very logical and basic but girls have this habbit of purchasing everything they like, so get away from that winter stuff and buy only what you will be able wear this summer. It is not essential that you have to wear only denim trousers try out something else of different material which looks classy and cool at the same time. Also avoid getting synthetic clothes for yourself because you wont be able to wear such things in the high humid and hot weather.

2. Avoid accessories.
Again the high humidity in the weather wont allow you to wear any kind of neckpieces or any other accessory. All you are going to get are rashes, if you wear them;instead you can pair up with nice stalls and light scarfs. It automatically changes the look and can give you a elegant as well as cool look according to the you wear it.

3. Why only bellies/shoes?
There are such great options for voguish footwears so why only go with bellies.Try out different footwear which gives a chick look. kolhapuri chapppals, jutties, slip-on sandals, ankle striped sandels etc. All these foot wears gives a unique flavour and can be worn with indian as well as western outfits. By pairing up properly one can get an amazing indo-western look.

4. The unforgettable SUNGLASSES.
Sunglasses is a must. Get a cool pair of sunglasses, it is an essential for protecing your eyes from burning sunrays and also gives stylish look, only when you have the right pair on, so choose rightly before purchasing a pair of sunglasses. Also avoid purchasing sunglasses from street vendors because those one will get lose very early and will also have some or the other defects.

5.The EVERGREENS
There are certain clothes which can never get outdated. Rugged jeans, tshirts, denim shirts, kolhapur chappals, sunglasses are some of them which you can choose for yourself this summer too. Pairing up these things with a simple high pony gives you a hot look every time. These clothes are really comfortable and makes one appearance stylish at the same time.

So go get yourself the best you can and be ready for the new fun phase of your life.
all the very best

How To Make New Friends In College?

How To Make New Friends In College?
There are moments in life when you will have to change your complete environment. Leaving your high school and going to college is one of those moments and it brings a radical change of scenery to your life.
Those moments of sudden change can bring both exhilaration and apprehension, it feels like everything is open again. You have a chance to reinvent yourself or grab opportunities to develop, but there are also some downsides. For example: you will have to make new friends. Especially when you are shy, that is not an easy task. Moreover, after the cut-off lists have been announced, and students have started taking admissions, the idea of  how you can make new friends in your college must have blown up your mind. And you also leave the friends you had for years and years, behind it might feel like you will never have such  strong connections again.
But don’t worry. You will find like-minded people wherever you go and especially in college or the university because you have so much in common already. Through this post, I shall try to help you to figure out ways of interacting with people and making new friends in college.
When you are starting to meet the new people, you might feel shy or insecure. In a way you are in a vulnerable position because there is a certain level of dependence on other people you are experiencing.  You are not sure will they accept you or not, what kind of impression will you leave, etc. Without any friends of your own every person can be the one that you will depend on for company.
This puts a lot of pressure on all the encounters with your fellow college mates. Some students in their first semester have a tendency to put their behaviour, and the responses of others under a magnifying glass.  They are usually bothered by questions like “Did I appear like a nice person in this interaction? Did others like me?”.
These questions that can haunt you in many situations, and if you think like that for a while, you first days at the college can became very stressful. Every encounter that could be an inspiring experience of getting to know somebody, can change into a competition of impressing and showing off.
Advice to you, simple as it might sound, is to just let go. Take a deep breath and let all the tension, expectations or pressure slide from your shoulders. People will then be able to see the person you are in everyday life.
Of course there are chances that some will reject you for it. That’s only natural. The thing is that only  your natural self will make you meet the people that are meant to be your true friends for life.
It sounds easy but it takes a lot of courage and practice to do so. If you are still not feeling comfortable in connecting with new people those social networking sites just might be what you need. You can always try talking to them through Facebook or Whatsapp if you feel shy talking to them face to face. In the end, I would just say that college life is full of new experiences and you must always be ready to open yourself to face them in order to become a better individual.

TOP FRESHMAN TIPS - Not only survive but to thrive your college years

TOP FRESHMAN TIPS - Not only survive but to thrive your college years.

First year in college? Few Top Freshman Tips that'll help you survive your college years.

Perhaps you were class president in high school. Or perhaps you were a member of the honor society. You could have graduated in the top percentile of your graduating class; perhaps you were even valedictorian. High school suceess doesnt automatically apply to your college life.

It is like a clean slate and you have to start over it all again. Every fresher finds it difficult to adjust and survive in the college, so here are few tricks that'll not only help you survive but also to thrive in college.

1. Know the people around:
It is the first and the basic trick that'll help you make friends and will make you feel comfortable. Remember, friends are the lifelines of college life. Meet at least one new person in each of your classes. It'll expand your network of friends and will also be a crucial resource at times when you miss your classes.

2. Attend orientation sessions:
Donot miss any of the orientations, they'll help you know alot more about the campus. The faster you learn your way around campus the more at ease you'll feel and the better prepared you'll be when issues arise.

3. Organize yourself:
Want to set things right? Just organize your work and simplify things. Buy an organizer, use an app, or get a big wall calendar - whatever it takes for you to know when assignments are due.

4. Go to the classes:
Obvious, right? Maybe, but sleeping in and skipping that 8 am class will be tempting at times. Avoid the temptation. Besides learning the material by attending classes, you'll also receive vital information from the professors about what to expect on tests, changes in due dates, etc.

5. Meet with your professors:
Always remember to have a healthy relationship with all the teachers. They could provide you with any sort of help, information that'll help you in numberless ways.

6. Get involved on campus:
A big problem for a lot of new students is a combination of homesickness and a feeling of not quite belonging. A solution? Consider joining a selective group and be careful not to go overboard of student organizations, clubs, or sports teams. You'll make new friends, learn new skills, and feel more connected to your college.

7. Strive for good grades: Another obvious one here, right? Setting up some goals for yourself and then making sure you work as hard as you can to achieve them is the key to acheive.

8. Take advantage of the study resources on campus:
Just like all the colleges have learning labs and libraries available you could definately use the avaible resources in case you're having any problems. You can also form your own study groups.

9. Make time for you:
Be sure you set aside some time and activities that help you relax and take the stress out of your day or week. Whether it's enlisting yoga techniques, watching your favorite television shows, or writing in a journal, be good to yourself.

Most upcoming question -Admission Withdrawal procedure? By Charu Chellani

Most upcoming question -
  Admission Withdrawal procedure??

After getting internship as a student Counselor in a reputed firm that is TIMES OF INDIA .I am happy and privileged to be here because i realized that i got an opportunity where i am able to  increase my knowledge about admission procedures of colleges, various questions of upcoming college students, best colleges-their courses and ranks.
These questions which are regularly ask by students to us make me remind those days when i was in the same situation and confused regarding many questions like which university is best ? Which course i should opt? I m doing right or not? Etc etc .
After answering many questions , i found that students are confused and do not know the admission withdrawal procedure.
Their questions :-
What is the procedure of cancellation of admission ?
How we can withdraw admission from  colleges?
How many times we are able to withdraw admission from colleges?
Fees will be refundable or not?
Is there any deduction in amount of refundable fees?

Admission withdrawal in Delhi University keeps the hope floating among students .This rule and facility helping many students to get admission in their desired college and course.
Procedure:-
If you are getting better college in next cut -off then you can easily cancel your admission from one college and get back certificates and fees and able to take admission in another college.
In first cut off ,if you are getting admission in college either desired college or not ,grab it, because vacancy in another college will always fill by students who already grab the seats and first priority will be given to you only inspite of new students. Now  in second cut off ,you are getting your selected college and desired course then you need to first cancel and withdraw your admission.
First,Go to college where you have taken admission earlier ,then fill form for the withdraw of admission .
Second, after filling the form, follow the cancellation procedure of respected college.
Third, after completion of cancellation procedure ,collect your document which you submitted during your admission in college like mark sheets
,certificates etc
Fourth, then fill form for the refund of Fees .Fees will refund by college on the same day or after 1-2 weeks after no deduction or deduction of rs 250-500 according to the rules of respected college.
Now Get set ,ready go with the shoes on to your desired college and again follow the admission procedure, which is like a climbing on a mountain with no experience....hahahaha!!!!!!
Students can withdraw admissions for many times ,till they will not get their favourite and dream college ,there is no bounded and restricted number of withdrawal by DU.

BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!!

Making Memories By Rashmeet

Making Memories

If you’re a college-bound high school junior or senior, this holiday break will probably find you completing campus visits, filling out forms, gearing up for the big test day, and completing any number of other tasks.
Take a moment amidst the chaos to mentally fast forward 3 year,to your farewell. What gifts will you take back from college with you?-The memories! Its good to have memories and even better to be able to recall them. No one would like to have vague recollections of the best phase of their life, isn't it?
So,here's a complete guide not only to make your college memorable but enshrined!
1.Click Pictures
Click pictures to store memories and not just uploading on Facebook. Everybody tells you to record all the significant moments of your college life on camera, but I'd suggest you to click every mundane thing, click your routine tasks, click your messy dorm, click the tasteless food of your canteen, because you are going to miss everything once you pass out!
Also, wouldn't you want to show your kids the pictures while narrating them you epic stories ?;)
 2. Preserve concrete things
The field visit. the historical trip, the nature walk- they all have an entry ticket. Try saving things like! Even though they seem ordinary bits of paper right now, someday in your life-they'll take you back to college days, and trust me that will be nostalgic!

3. Scrap-booking
Once you’re settled into your dorm set aside a junk drawer for random news clippings, orientation pamphlets, student ID cards, and other memorabilia. Later you can organize everything in a “Freshman Year” album that will reduce your mom to tears…in a good way.
4 Plan get to-gathers

Instead of just telling your friends(outsider the college) and family the heroic saga of your college times, invite them to your wonderland itself! Don't go hunting places for reunions, rather plan it in your own campus and have gala time.Call your friends and family to attend college fests!

From bunking classes, to calling teachers by different names, from being with our lecturers as  our  friends to eating junctions, from attending classes but sleeping at the back seat to chilling in the canteen. Each and every moment of these 2 years had been like a spark in my life.
Delhi university except of studies have a good level of curricullar activities like dramatics, bhangra teams , dance teams , painting , baskeetball , football , singing, cricket and a lot more.
Every college has different societies within their colleges which give students a chance to enhance and be in contact with activities depending on their interest.
Fests, annual functions, street plays, nukad naatak are few favourite elements of students of Delhi University. ANTARDHWANI is the biggest fest of Delhi University and students are crazy to attend it.

Even i am pursuing Spanish diploma from Delhi University and I am satisfied by its faculty.
I cherish my life in du and today I can proudly say that I am a student of DELHI UNIVERSITY.

The Essentials: Things you need to carry to survive college By Somya Singhal

The Essentials: Things you need to carry to survive college

Let’s face it, the transition from school to college brings in major changes in your life. While earlier it was a whole lot easy to decide what to and what not to take to school (thanks to the rigorous time table, there was barely any space in our bags for anything but books), in college the choice becomes extremely difficult. So here is a list of a few things you should not forget to keep in your bag.
1) A register: In college you don’t need to carry different notebooks for different classes but that doesn’t mean that you should completely do away with the concept of notebooks. So keeping at least one register is a good idea.
2) An umbrella: With the weather changing its mood every second, you never know when you might need an umbrella to save you from getting completely drenched or completely soaked in your own sweat.
3) Water: Yes yes, I know. You just got out of school, you don’t need to carry water bottles. Now, you can buy them whenever you want, plus which college doesn’t have a water cooler. But maybe, someday you will find yourself in a situation where these things might not easily available. Having water in your bag, thus, won’t be a bad option.
4) Sunscreen: Believe me, unless you like that tanned look on yourself or don’t really mind having tan lines, you would want to have sunscreen handy.
5) Change: Carrying a 500rs note is not going to help you. Even though you have money you will not be able to use it. Whether it’s getting a rickshaw or a bread pakoda from your canteen, you are going to need change so it’s better to carry some.

The Freshman Year College Experience By Mudit Trikha Sharma

The Freshman Year College Experience

Those of the one who are college pass outs will never forget their first year at college. Some of them may like to forget their freshman year, but in general it is a time filled with anticipation, some anxiety, wonderful discoveries and a completely new experience.

College is a lot different than school. Your freshman experience will definitely make an impression on you. Without doubt, though, the most dramatic freshman year is for those living away from home. What can you expect as you head off into the wonderful world of higher education?

The first thing you’ll notice is the work pressure. It will be really different from your school. The challenges of college work are the deadlines, practical work, less theory. A effect that can be seen on by the workload is frustration, and possibly loneliness.

On some of those long, endless nights of studying, it will be irritating ,frustrating, you just have to hang in there. These down periods will pass. Whatever you do, just don’t forget to work hard, things always look better in the morning.

You’ll be making a lot of new friends. Continue to be yourself. Don’t try to be someone who will get you friends. Select your friends with the same care and patience.
