The Freshman Year College Experience By Mudit Trikha Sharma

The Freshman Year College Experience

Those of the one who are college pass outs will never forget their first year at college. Some of them may like to forget their freshman year, but in general it is a time filled with anticipation, some anxiety, wonderful discoveries and a completely new experience.

College is a lot different than school. Your freshman experience will definitely make an impression on you. Without doubt, though, the most dramatic freshman year is for those living away from home. What can you expect as you head off into the wonderful world of higher education?

The first thing you’ll notice is the work pressure. It will be really different from your school. The challenges of college work are the deadlines, practical work, less theory. A effect that can be seen on by the workload is frustration, and possibly loneliness.

On some of those long, endless nights of studying, it will be irritating ,frustrating, you just have to hang in there. These down periods will pass. Whatever you do, just don’t forget to work hard, things always look better in the morning.

You’ll be making a lot of new friends. Continue to be yourself. Don’t try to be someone who will get you friends. Select your friends with the same care and patience. Believe it or not, your college friendships will be among the most satisfying and long-term friendships of your life. Some people won’t think the same but that’s true !!

So all in all your freshman year will be a great experience but you’ll have to be careful in a lot of departments. Just remember , stay alert STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF !

ACCOMMODATION FOR AN OUTSTATION STUDENT By Saloni Thakur

ACCOMMODATION FOR AN OUTSTATION STUDENT

So it is finally time to pack your old life into a few boxes and move out to a different city and start with a new life all together. There are various things one encounters which make it hard for students to accept this new life gracefully.  Of course missing home is one of them, also missing home cooked food is one issue which might at times make you hate this new world of yours. The luxuries of life are nowhere to be found and if you are a pampered child you are going to face some real trouble. The more adaptive you are the easier it becomes for you. But along with this there is a lot that you are going to enjoy and cherish. What you learn from staying alone can never be learnt with that constant guidance of the family. Getting yourself food or cooking to cleaning your room or washing your clothes make you more self reliant. And not to forget the freedom you get, will make you love your life. You get to meet new people, stay with them, make friends and finally exploring this new place will make your college life an unforgettable journey.
Along with all these things the most important issue is to look for an accommodation.  There are different options available to a student. You can move into a hostel or can pick up alternative accommodations like PG (paying guest) or flats.
·         HOSTELS
Hostels are one of the most common and preferred accommodations. Though not all colleges have hostel facility and many who do provide hostels have very limited seats. Therefore it’s considered the first choice for most outstation students and parents are keen on getting their child a seat. The major reason for it is the safety of this accommodation and comparatively lesser rent.
Students have to abide by the rules and regulations of the institute which are generally strict. These may be in the form of curfew deadlines or even leave regulations .Hostel mess food might also be an issue for many.  But all this will not stop you from enjoying your college life or for that matter hostel life.  This will bring you irreplaceable memories and lifelong friendships.

·         PG ACCOMMODATION
Paying guest accommodations are easily available around all colleges. It is one of the fastest growing businesses in Delhi. You will have a wide range of such accommodations to choose from providing different facilities and charging different rents. Food issues are not very common here because generally the owners and cooperative are open to suggestions regarding food. Curfew deadlines, adjustment issues with roommates and extremely high rents at certain places may be a problem.

·         FLATS
For many owning an own house and having full freedom along with being completely independent might be like a dream come true. But all these rosy imaginations are not that rosy. Managing a house on one’s own becomes a very cumbersome task. Grocery shopping, dealing with the daily dramas of the maids or bargaining with the vegetable vendors makes flat life hard and troublesome. Even if you do plan to move to a flat it’s important to consider the safety of the locality and it’s always good to share a flat than staying alone.  The benefits of calling your friends over any time or having a house party cannot be ignored. Also every time your parents visit you they have a place to stay. Shared flats generally costs lesser than a PG accommodation.

So before selecting an accommodation all the pros and cons should be taken into consideration and finally the one best suited for your comfort and convenience should be selected. Three important factors to be considered are proximity from the college, rent and most importantly safety.
ALL THE BEST!

10 College Wardrobe Essentials By Urvi Gupta

10 College Wardrobe Essentials

Since the ‘back to college’ days are approaching, here are the 10 wardrobe essentials which will make your life a heck of a lot easier. So if you are planning to go out shopping for college, do have a look. Hopefully this should be pretty helpful for all the college kids out there. So here it goes.
1. Basic T-Shirts
The first most essential piece of cloth has to be the basic tees. Black, white and grey are my personal favorites. They go with everything. Trust me, EVERYTHING be it denim jeans, shorts, skirts. You just need to know how to build up on them.
2. Formal Shirt
They will help you in the times of interviews, presentations, speeches etc, when you want people to take you seriously. Don’t limit it to black or white. Go with your personal choice.
3. A Denim Shirt/Jacket
It is surely a must have girls. It will go with everything be it a cute floral dress or a summer cotton blouse. It will always enhance your look. And guess what it will save you from the sun tan as well. :P
4. Dark-wash skinny Jeans
Specifically a dark-wash because it gives a classic and flattering look. It will be a staple piece you will always want to wear. Choose the one which fits you very well.
5. Floral Spring Dress
A cute floral one piece dress has to be in your wardrobe this summer. Pick yours from all the florescent happy colors and show your personal style with a cute hairstyle and let the heads turn.
6. Crop Tops
Crop tops have become so common these days that they have become a must have. So girls don’t give it a second thought, go get yours. You can pair it up with your denim jeans, high waist jeggings, slacks, shorts etc etc.
7. Little Black Dress
With the beginning of college those fresher’s parties will also start. That little black dress would rescue you from all the worries. Pair your little black dress with a statement neckpiece and a pair of heels and you are ready to hit the floor ladies.
8. Chunky Scarves
It acts as a great accessory in this summer. It will protect you from all sorts of hot summer winds while travelling. And you can dress up all black and put on a statement scarf and you are good to go. Girls, a great scarf will make the biggest difference.
9. Tote bags
They are big enough to carry your books and all the other essential things you would need in college. I would suggest going for a black and a white one as they would go with every outfit.
10. Sneakers/Flip-flops
Sneakers are the most comfortable thing you can wear to college. With all the travelling and tiring hectic days at college, sneakers will keep your feet happy. Go for the neon and florals this summer as summer 2015 is all about florals.
I hope these tips will help you in shopping for your college wardrobe collection or otherwise too.
Happy shopping divas :)

#Boost up for #Freshers by Priyanka Tiwari

Boost up for Freshers

The excitement of stepping into a new college life filled with surprises, and the thought of getting into a desired college or university is something which runs in the mind of every student after receiving their grade XII board results. Along with this excitement there is also a sense of nervousness and the best remedy to beat those prangs of anxiety is getting a few tips from ex freshers. So, here are some messages for coming freshers from students across Delhi. Have a look!

ADIT VERMA
AIIMS, DELHI

Sweat, Blood, Glory. Getting into AIIMS was the journey of a lifetime. But life, here in my new home, is one giant leap ahead - filled with wonders, adventures, opportunities and friends (who are now family). Hard work and faith (in yourself and in God)- these are the pillars that would support you on this journey that you have set out on. Carpe diem - seize the day!

WILFRED TOMMY
DELHI TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY (DTU)

Getting into DTU has been one of the biggest transitions of my life. It meant getting out of my comfort zone and venturing far into the depths of an engineer's struggle. Amongst all the over saturation and hard work, you truly find a sense of pleasure in the work you do.
For any freshers reading this, I hope they remember that the few years they will spend in college are the years they'll never get back and the one's they'll never forget. So enjoy the most of it.

MANISHA RAI
AMITY UNIVERSITY

Before entering Amity I was a bit nervous and scared as well but then with time and a bit patience I guess I started liking my college. Attendance has always been an issue here and I think I am fine with it now but maintaining 75% attendance is really tough. Campus life of Amity is brilliant and full of life.  The faculty for journalism is quite good.
My message for freshers would be just maintain your attendance here Amity is very strict in terms of attendance if its 75% then it is dot 75%.

SHAILJA KUMARI
SRI AUROBINDO COLLEGE, DU

Getting into Delhi University was like a dream come true and a life changing experience for me. The excitement of getting into DU was slowly simmered during the procedure of the admission -the queue of students, sizzling heat of Delhi, stressed out parents. Aah! But these memories bring smile to my face now. To the freshers- you just need to cherish every moment of your college life. Be patient and don't stress out.

ANUKRITI TIWARI
DAULAT RAM COLLEGE, DU

For me , getting into DU was a big thing. Delhi University is one of the few institutions across the nation which provide the students with a plethora of opportunities. You always get to explore and discover something unique about yourself and the people around you.The admission time is stressful but I would suggest the students seeking admission to focus on the course they aspire. You will definitely enjoy the amazing college life.

GARIMA BAWEJA
KALINDI COLLEGE, DU

It’s hard to forget the freshman year of college life. Getting into college, or I must say getting into Delhi’s top most university is the most versatile and exuberant experience one can ever have!
It is a lot more than the earlier routines of school life, the habits, the workload, the feeling; life as a Duite is altogether a different feeling. In general, it is a time filled with anticipation, anxiety and a whole lot of wonderful discoveries, new people, new surroundings and everything!
My only message to the upcoming freshers is that enjoy your college life to the fullest as it is the best time of your life and yes stay focused on your goals!

AKSHAD VENKATESH
IHM, DELHI

With all the big hotel chains like itc, the taj, the oberoi etc., looking for new hoteliers with dynamic ideas, Hotel management is the best way to take a step towards entering this industry. And if your college is IHM Pusa, New delhi you know you are in the best. It feels great to be here. You get to know and learn many new things that you would wonder about when you enter in a hotel, you get to learn cooking and this is the place where great chefs like Chef Sajeev Kapoor were born.
For the one's who aspire to be a hotelier, hotel management will give you just the right platform to join the industry that has a lot to offer.

VISHWAS SINGH
SRM UNIVERSITY, DELHI

At first it was feeling of ambivalence that I was facing as I couldn't make it to some prestigious IIT or NIT. But this college really gave me a great platform to develop my skills and the right exposure from our talented seniors. Which not only aided me in my endeavours in several fields but also provided me appropriate career guidance with several options. I suggest every freshman to recognize the potential within themselves and the college and take advantage of the all the positive things that are omnipresent here.

RAHUL GUPTA
SRI VENKATESWARA COLLEGE, DU

Well off the bat, entering the college life gives a hell lot of freedom. You get certain amount of money from home as allowance and you can spend it any way you want because your parents think your "big" enough now . And regarding DU, i think its one of the best universities if one has a talent he wants to show to the world. DU gives you a lot of opportunity to show your talent to the world. Seeing the competition in DU is precisely why I've taken up a few hobbies in these vacations of mine so that i can also be part of these societies and clubs.
A message for the freshers "just chill because you will have the time of your life because DU gives you everything you expect from your college life".
