DO's and Dont's for #Outstation #Students by Riddhima Shrivastava

DO's and Dont's for Out Stationed Students

Students new to Delhi having less exposure in school times should understand some basic points for living independently and handling themselves without the pampers by family.

Starting with the DO's" :

Manage your pocket: When you leave home chances are 200% that you'll be broke at some point or the other. Realize the importance of money. Please be cautious while spending and maintain a priority list. Wise spending is the right way.

Regularly update your family: Talk with your family at least once in a day. Don't disappear making them clueless of what is happening to their kid and where is s/he roaming the whole day. Be considerate and take out time for them.

Eat healthy and fresh: Never compromise on health. Eat at regular intervals, don't skip meals and eat at decent places.

Take care of your belongings: In a hostel or paying guest accommodation you will be sharing rooms with total strangers. So, keep your money and other important things locked up. Stealing is very common so be aware.

Alarm clock is a must: For waking up for college, taking small naps before the exam nights or just irritating your friends with the peculiar sound in the morning alarm clock will be a necessity for sleepy heads.

To the more important points the Don'ts :

Homesickness: Crying on phone saying "Mom I miss you. I wish to come home", is not acceptable. Be mature, take up responsibilities and stop worrying your parents. Taste the independence, live the freedom and give your parents a break from running after you the whole time.

Miss a chance of hostel: Don't even think of missing out on the hostel life. DU is having 70+ colleges with only 17 hostels. If you are getting a hostel grab that opportunity you are lucky enough. At least for the first two years of college it's certainly best place to reside.

Jump all over the place: If you are not getting a decent hostel than find a paying guest space. But try to settle down at one place as shifting after every semester is a hectic job and needs a lot of time and investment. I understand not every place is perfect but adjust, that is life.

Limit your fantasy about street markets: Sarjoni and Karol Bagh markets are tempting and highly reasonable but over spending on these items is not smartness. The stuff is trendy and not long lasting so spend accordingly.

Borrowing from friends: Even if broke try not to borrow from friends. Simply because it creates problems in friendship and reduces your coming pocket money. Try to manage in what all you have and wait for the next pocket money to come.
