Journalism –mass communication.

A lot of people believe that journalism is all about fun, cameras, advertising and marketing and they get into the course thinking that it’s everyone’s cup of tea and anyone can do it. Yes anybody can fit into this course but only if they have aptitude towards this course. This course is not only about cameras and ads, it’s much more. Course structures would start from the very basics, it will cover the history and origin of modern mass Medias, cover print media, broadcast extensively and separately. 

The Delhi University’s course structure focuses on the communication strategies, models, theories, History of print, broadcast, radio, online journalism, media laws, ethics, film production, media studies, marketing, camera etc.

You will have to submit news reporting assignments; will have to make scripts of new broadcast and radio broadcast. You will learn theories of marketing and advertisements too.

People who are not passionate about journalism, news and writing often find it difficult to adjust with the course.

 Bjmc will offer you practical training for documentary production, film production etc but the level of practical exposure depends from university to university.

Even if you don’t want to enter into hardcore journalism and want to work on films or on ads, you will still have to go through the entire course. You will have to learn basic work of a copy writer, reporter etc. Journalism is about information, this information can be news, an advertisement or film and the course will teach you how to create, edit, publish, spread and develop channels.

 

If you have thirst for knowledge, If you like playing with words (But my dear it’s not about rhyming words or debating) it’s about molding content and information into a readable piece , expressing yourself without biases,  making a boring news interesting ,  going beyond books and laptop screens and learning to work on field.

People often think career opportunities after journalism and mass communication are limited and scarce but that is not true. Journalism is linked to many disciplinary courses so it provide various job profiles and also it is an  ever growing and one of the most fast pace developing industry in our country today.

 12 steps for the Counselling process in IPU

1. First step is paying counselling fees. You have to pay Rs. 1000 as counselling fees. Payment options will be mentioned on IPU website.

2. After the payment of fees, wait for the choice filling dates to be out.

3. Now the option of choice filling has been activated , you have to make a list of colleges according to your priority. College name, course name and college shift has to be filled. This process should be done very carefully.

 4. The college, course and shift should be arranged in this way, that the option with the most priority should be on the top and then accordingly you've to arrange your choices.

5. After this, first round of cut off list comes out. A college may/may not be allotted to you.  But this doesn't signifies the final allotment.

 6. If you've been allotted a seat, you've to pay Rs. 40000 in IPU main campus, dwarka. If you've got your desired seat, you can freeze it. But there's always a chance for upgradation. So it's suggested, don't freeze it.

 7. And if you haven't been allotted any seat, just wait for next 2 rounds. Although there's always a rough idea with the previous year cutoffs. You can refer to them. Cut offs are almost same.

 8. After a college has been allotted to you in third round, there can be two options. Either you freeze your seat and do the further process for admission in given college. Or you wait for the spot round counselling.

 9. Although, last year there were many legal complications with this spot round so it'd be suggested, just take up the seat allotted to you in third round and then only apply for the spot round.

 10. Now, after the seat allotment in third round, you've to visit your allotted college. And then you've to pay the amount of fees left. Payment options will be mentioned on the IPU website.

 11. With the payment, you have to get your documents verified. The documents will also be mentioned on the website. Plus keep 2 extra photocopies of all the documents while verification.

 12. And tadaaa, you're finally done with it :D

With the CBSE board results out, admission hush-hush is on with anxiety which college students will end up in. 

Yes the competition is hot out there but you needn’t get downhearted if you’ve scored between 40%-70%. The educational field is vast and there is a place for everyone. While there is a ballyhoo regarding University of Delhi, many don’t know about a few private universities providing quality education out there. Not all private universities are bad. Well-known courses like BBA aren’t there at DU but are available in private universities. It is better to opt for a course serving your interest rather than being in a college of DU which does not provide the course you’ve wanted to get into. 

Always put your course before college and study the background of the college before you take admission into it. 

In most cases, the rankings shown by various universities aren’t transparent. If you plan to go into a private university, you should be aware of its fee-structure, the faculty and the course criteria. Also, you always have the option of enrolling yourself in Delhi University’s School of Open Learning which offers numerous courses like English(hons), B.com(hons), Political Science(hons) etc. You will be awarded a DU degree once you complete 3 years of education. There are a number of job-oriented courses such as Hotel Management, Fashion designing etc. It is advisable for you to do some research and dig out various good options you may find suitable for your career.
