Delhi University

#1. In 1922 when the University was first established there were only three colleges (St. Stephens, Hindu and Ramjas College) with two faculties of Arts and Science and 750 students. Currently, there are 16 faculties, 77 colleges, 86 departments, 132435 regular students and 261169 students part of informal programmes.

#2. There a never ending list of DU famous pas-outs like, Narendra Modi, Arjun Rampal (Hindu College) , Minissha Lamba, SRK, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Ritu Beri, Amitav Ghosh, Khushwant Singh, Montek Singh Alluhwalia and this list ever ends.

#3. The Northern Ridge which falls under the North Campus of DU is not just a place for your evening walks and the hub for love activities but is also a place of historical importance. The Flagstaff Tower in the ridge which would look like any other ancient building is actually where the Revolt of 1857 finally came to an end. The ridge also has the Ashokan Pillar which was shifted from Meerut to Delhi by Firoz Shah Tughluq in 1356.

Amity University

#1.  Amity was India’s first private university slated to implement reservation based on caste for both faculty as well as students.

 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)

#1. Indian Government is spending 18 to 26 million dollars every year on each IIT. If we consider 6 IIT’s then the amount becomes 156 million US dollars.

#2. Several companies recruit from IIT with packages in excess of 150,000 $ (90 + lakhs) and the highest till date is 1.5 crores per year. The most popular branches to receive these packages include Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical and Aeronautics Engineering.

#3. IIT Madras has the largest population of students who wake up in the mornings to eat their mess food. Inspite of the qualms about the food served on campus, it has registered over 6,380 out of 8,000 students as regular attendees at its mess in the morning, which is by far the largest percentage of any college population in India to attend breakfast as an event.

BITS

#1. BITS PILANI has campuses at Pilani, Hyderabad, Goa and Dubai and all these campuses are interconnected through BITS CONNECT 2.0 – a million dollar project. This allows a student from the Hyderabad campus to not only attend lectures at Pilani but can also able to interact online and can ask live questions, which is something happening for the first time in India. This is a perfect combination of remote learning and participatory coursework with remote recruitment and collaborative research.

#2. The alumni participation in the development of the institute has been ever increasing since the inception of BITSAA. There are regular meetings between aumini and students where alumini share their experiences during college life and throw some light on how to gain maximum from this temple of knowledge. Some of the alumini visited are 

: Sabeer Bhatia - founder of Hotmail , Vivek Paul - former vice chairman Wipro, Baba Kalyani chairman of Bharat Forge.

#3. At the BITS Pilani, there isn’t any kind of reservation for anybody. Administration here believes that reservation can hardly play a part in the progress and advancement of the country. Every single student at BITS Pilani is equal and there are no special privileges for anybody.

Its your life, time to make it large!

Getting out of school, they say changes your life. Now, this life change can be good or bad and that’s what most youngsters always fear. This dilemma makes many questions pop up in the minds. They can be about the kind of life, the type of studies, the level of exams or the behavior of teachers in contrast to school.

Rule number one of getting yourself tailored for college life is taking advantage of all the given opportunities and spending as much time in studies as in other activities.

School starts with a bell and ends with it. There are no gaps between classes unless the teacher is absent and you get a substitution. In college you may have gaps of even hours between classes. Can be so long that you can even go watch a movie in between, well that’s great in a way right? 

Merely attending the classes is not enough. The course/syllabus is described by the universities with complete details including essential or additional readings and presentations. It is important to go through this information. The books or readings mentioned could be provided by the teachers but they don’t always spoon-feed you in college so you’ll have to search them up in the libraries. And don’t worry, you won’t be called a geek if you go to libraries sometimes, perhaps because that’s necessary. 

In college you don’t study different subjects like Maths, Science or English. Moreover since the FYUP has gone.  You specialize in a particular field and so the syllabus is vast. 

At this level you’re not taught by teachers, professors instead. Their job is to provide you with knowledge not sit and make you learn because learning is your part of the job. The idea of college is to make you self independent in all aspects. Listening to what the professors teach in class matters a lot as they guide you through a huge heap of books and inform about the important topics to be read from them. It saves your time and energy during exams. 

The holidays between exams differ among universities. Usually not much time is given between exams apart from the 10 days preparatory leave, notably by Delhi University. The pattern of question papers is quite simple with mostly long answer question. So there’s the relief from those 1 and 2 mark questions for which every minute detail is to be learned.  Study smartly and wisely.  Don’t let go a mountain while you’re busy collecting stones. 

This is the time of your life. Make the most out of it. 

College life gives you plenty time to gossip, hangout, discover new places and indulge in socio cultural activities.  The debating, dramatics, dance, music societies add to it. Try and be a part of as much things as you can if you love exploring. Undoubtedly the most relishing time can be the season of fests where you have various competitions and amazing performances by the stars. It’s the best platform to showcase you talent, if you’re lucky gain fame too at this age. 

Its going be an amazing journey, just make it worth it.

With the scorching heat of June and the sun shining bright just over our heads, there was a unique historic impression when we entered the Kalindi College, Delhi University Campus. The oldest college in Delhi, reflects history and prestige acquired by it over the years.

A well Designed Beauty!

With sophisticated clean gardens, old tall green palm trees covered under the shadows of nature, college is blessed with beauty. With so many trees, not a single shredded leaf was to be seen anywhere. Even with so much of heat the Campus maintains its charm and beauty of its lush green lawns of the Herbal garden, especially the front lawn of the college which is as green as anything can be!

If you look at the entire campus of the College, it is definite that you would sense a subtle , proud feeling. The college is as serene as watching an old English lavish palace with impeccable architecture and foliage all around, almost similar to that of a classic British movie.

Not just this, College has the best flora and fauna resources in its campus. The college, besides students and faculty, is home to many migratory birds too. The only reason for this bird to find home in this campus is due to its magical verdure.
